The Department of Computer science and Engineering (Data Science) was established in 2020 at Haldia Institute of Technology to meet ever-growing demand for data-savvy professionals. In this era of information overload, data is the new direction toward designing our curriculum which empowers students to extract, analyze and apply insights from massive datasets to solve real world Problems. The program is affiliated by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB and approved by AICTE.
The aim is to establish a centre of excellence in Computer Science (Data Science), in the fields of education, research, innovation, and technological development, fostering globally competent professionals committed to societal advancement.
M1: To provide high-quality industry oriented education in computer science and data science, enhancing emerging technologies and also fostering the development of competent professionals with exposure to research and technological development in frontier areas of computing and data science.
M2: To promote outcome based multidisciplinary research, innovation, and entrepreneurship by enabling students to apply computational and data-driven sustainable approaches to address real-world problems and encounter technological challenges.
M3: To cultivate ethically and socially responsible and experimental learning based professionals equipped with effective communication, collaborative learning for successful and lifelong learning in a globally interconnected environment.
PEO-1: To provide students with a strong foundation in applied science and Computer Science & Engineering fundamentals necessary to analyze the requirements of the software, understand the technical specifications, design and create innovative computing products and solutions for real life problems.
PEO-2: To provide exposure to emerging technologies, adequate training and opportunities to work as teams on multidisciplinary projects with effective communication skills and leadership qualities.
PEO-3: To prepare the students for a successful professional career as engineer, scientist, teacher, technocrat, administrator or an entrepreneur and work with values &social concern bridging the digital divide and meeting the requirements of Indian and multinational companies.
PSO-1: Disciplinary Knowledge: Ability to understand and utilize foundational principles of computer science, mathematics, and management to develop efficient algorithms and solve complex computational problems.
PSO-2: Problem Solving Skills: Ability to design and develop intelligent data driven solutions using suitable algorithms, models, tools, and technologies.
PSO-3: Professional Skills: Ability to apply data-centric approaches in real-world, multidisciplinary projects and internships, demonstrating teamwork, leadership, project management, ethical responsibility, and effective communication skills.
The Department of Data Science was established in 2020 under forward-looking management backed by over thirty years of excellence in engineering education. Data Science is recognized as one of the emerging domains by AICTE and the Government of India. The rapid growth of digital technologies, smart phones, social media, and online platforms has resulted in massive volumes of diverse and complex data. Effectively managing and extracting insights from such data requires an integrated skill set combining statistics and computer science, giving rise to the specialized engineering discipline of Data Science.
