Dr. Somak Karan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering at Haldia Institute of Technology, where he has been serving since 2017. He earned his PhD in Instrumentation Engineering from the University of Calcutta, with research focusing on advanced process control strategies for delay-dominated industrial systems. His research interests include modified Smith predictor schemes, time-delay compensation, fractional-order controller design, and optimization techniques. Dr. Karan has published 11 journal papers in reputed SCI and Scopus-indexed journals, including Q1 publications, and has one patent filed. He has actively contributed to laboratory development, research mentoring, and institutional academic committees, and is a recipient of the Wiley Top-Cited Article Award. He is also a reviewer for international journals and actively involved in outcome-based education and accreditation activities.
